Skill Up Somerset is an Apprenticeship and Skills Advisory Service

We offer free, impartial advice and guidance.

We support the businesses and the people of Somerset with their Apprenticeship and Skills journey.

We want to support you with the challenges your business may face with recruitment and skills gaps, help you to progress in your career or even make those first steps in gaining or returning to employment.

Skill Up Update:

It is with great pleasure that Skill Up West Somerset has been able to bring the West Somerset Business Group under its wing to enable this group to continue and grow. The aim of the West Somerset Business Group has always been to provide easy access to information, support, and free training, facilitate networking between businesses, creating links and contacts so we can work together better and this is something that we want to continue to build on.

Access to employment and learning fund

The Access to Employment and Learning Fund has been developed to help address barriers that prevent local residents from accessing employment and learning opportunities.

The support is open to people living in the Somerset West and Taunton District and has been provided as part of the Department for Education’s Opportunity Area funding.

The Access to Employment and Learning Fund can be used by residents of Somerset West and Taunton area to address any barriers including, but not limited to:

  • Transport - to assist with getting to an employment or learning opportunity
  • Essential work equipment and work wear - ie Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) or interview outfit
  • Childcare costs (where these are not covered by existing government initiatives)
  • Costs of training or learning

The fund is very flexible. If you have any other barriers to employment or learning which are not listed, please contact us to discuss your needs.

Training and community learning providers may also apply to help deliver learning opportunities to smaller groups of learners, where low numbers make delivery unpractical.
